IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF?
You must submit the results of a recognized organization’s language testing in order to apply for immigration to Canada. The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Programme (CELPIP) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are the two currently recognized test providers in English. The Pearson English Test (PTE), which will start to be accepted by the end of 2023, will also be used for immigration. To satisfy the language competency requirements set forth by the IRCC for Canadian immigration applicants, Pearson created the PTE, a new English assessment.
You must take the Test Devaluation de Francis (TEF) if you want to take your language test in French.
There is no preferred test for IRCC. You can select the test that is more convenient for you to take because the outcomes of all three tests are equally respected. Any language exam you take must have recent results (within the previous 24 months), regardless of the test’s kind.
For each of the four language skills—listening, reading, writing, and speaking—IELTS, CELPIP, PTE, and TEF allot a score.
IELTS
An English proficiency test that is offered globally is IELTS. Because there are several testing locations worldwide, we typically advise our clients to take the IELTS for their immigration file and offer them IELTS training. IELTS is divided into two subcategories: general training and academic. You ought to take the IELTS – General Training for Canadian Immigration. The IELTS score report includes a score for each language skill as well as an overall band score that averages your performance across all skills. Your overall band score has no bearing on your ability to enter Canada
CELPIP
IRCC, which is responsible for immigration, refugees, and citizenship, created CELPIP. The CELPIP was created for Canadian English, which incorporates British and American English as well as Canadian accents, in contrast to the IELTS, which is intended to measure English ability on a global scale. The General Test and the General LS Test are the two test kinds offered by CELPIP. You must pass the CELPIP – General Test in order to immigrate. The CELPIP was initially only available within Canada, but it has since gone global, with test centres opening in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, India, China, and the United States.
TEF
You must take the TEF unless you are a native French speaker or would prefer to submit language test results proving your French competency. The TEF and the TEFAQ are the two TEF variants that are offered. Most of the time, we advise taking the TEF. While both federal and Quebec immigration accepts the TEF, only Quebec immigration accepts the TEFAQ.
What Score Do I Need?
Although they vary, the majority of economic immigration programmes in Canada have minimal language requirements. Depending on the programme you’re applying to, you’ll need to get a certain score.
There are basic requirements, but many programmes also use point systems. Along with language competency, points may also be given for factors including age, work history, and education. Depending on your profile, your required language test score may range from the minimal requirement.
